Feliks Araszkiewicz

Feliks Araszkiewicz (born January 14, 1895 in Zamołodycze near Włodawa , † May 30, 1966 in Lublin ) was a Polish literary historian . He dealt mainly with the works of Bolesław Prus .

Life

Araszkiewicz attended the Russian grammar school in Radom from 1904 to 1905 , the Polish private school in Biała Podlaska from 1906 to 1908 and then from 1909 to 1913 the private school in Lublin. During this time he was a member of the Organizacja Młodzieży Narodowej . After graduating from high school in 1913, he studied Polish studies at the Jagiellonian University in Cracow and from 1915 Russian and Slavic studies at Moscow University . He was also a member of Polska Organizacja Wojskowa and from 1916 to 1918 of Narodowy Związek Robotniczy .

After the First World War , he returned to Poland in 1918 and lived in Lublin, where he worked as a Polish and history teacher from 1918 to 1929. In addition, he made his military service in 1920 and received his doctorate in 1924 at the Jagiellonian University with the thesis Bolesław Prus i jego ideały życiowe . He then went on an educational trip to Italy in 1925 . From 1929 he worked for the Lublin School Board of Trustees and was from 1934 to 1938 chairman of the Lublin Association for Cultural Work ( Lubelski Związek Pracy Kulturalnej ). During the German occupation of Poland , he lived in the village of Ludwików and gave lessons underground.

After the Second World War he moved back to Lublin and worked as a high school teacher until 1949. He also gave lectures at the Catholic University of Lublin on Polish didactics . There he completed his habilitation in 1947 with the work Bolesław Prus. Filozofia. Kultura. Zagadnienia społeczne and took over the chair of literary history in 1948. From 1950 to 1953 he headed the Department of Polish Philology at the Faculty of Human Sciences, of which he was dean from 1953 to 1954. In addition, from 1945 to 1956 he was deputy chairman of the Lublin Association of Polish Writers . He was also the initiator and from 1957 scientific director of the Bolesław Prus Museum in Nałęczów . In 1961 he was appointed associate professor and retired in 1965.
