Ferchel
Ferchel is a desert in the Hellberg Mountains in Saxony-Anhalt, southeast of Zichtau and west of Wiepke .
history
When it was first mentioned in 1473, the Ferchen was the wusten dorfsteden Verchen , i.e. a desert village place ( desert ). It is located on the northeast side of the step mountain belonging to the Hellbergen, on the corridor of Zichtau. 600 meters south of the village of Zichtau, there are narrow fields called Höfe or Wischhöfe and in front of the courtyards , the wooded terrain to the west is called Ferchel or Verchel or im Verchel , so this is where the old village was located.
Ferchel oak
An oak belonging to the village was preserved . The tree known as Fercheleiche , which is the most important natural monument (ND0023SAW) of the Hellberge and today belongs to the district of Zichtau, is a well-known hiking destination in the area. A sign in front of the oak points to the Ferchel desert.
The still very vital English oak , which shapes the landscape, is estimated to be around 300 years old. Even at a very low height, the first branches branch off from the trunk, some of them horizontally near the ground, creating a broad crown. According to measurements in 2017, the basic trunk has a chest height of 6.25 m. The crown diameter is 29 m and the height of the tree veteran is given as 22 m.
