Ferdinand Lindner

Ferdinand Lindner (born June 15, 1842 in Dresden , † May 6, 1906 in Charlottenburg ) was a German painter and illustrator.

Education

On April 15, 1863 matriculated he at the University of Leipzig for jurisprudence (later philosophy ). The next day he became active in the Corps Lusatia Leipzig . In the summer semester of 1864 he was secretary , in the following winter semester a senior . As a successful fencer on “left” and “right” he fought a total of 49 lengths . In 1865 he was "due to execution of a duel" - a PP suite against a Jena Thuringian  three weeks ago - Karzer punished 1st degree and semi-annual scholarships withdrawal. While in custody, he painted the well-known picture “The Skat Parade” on the prison wall. With him he discovered his talent for drawing . His scale drawing "Lindner als Linkser" has been preserved. Lindner was a champion of corporate student policy and public relations. In the dungeon he designed a programmatic martial arts script. In 1865 still involved in a "real" duel , he remained free of complaints.

He acquired his artistic skills autodidactically . His main work was in the field of marine painting ; he also painted landscapes and illustrated books and articles in magazines. He worked for the Leipziger Illustrirten Zeitung for many years and produced articles and illustrations for Die Gartenlaube . From 1882 to 1898 he worked in Cuxhaven and at Neuwerk ; later he lived in Charlottenburg .

Lindner illustrated the first edition of Karl May's work Und Friede auf Erden , published in 1901 . In subsequent editions, however, his colored pictures were replaced by black and white illustrations by Wilhelm Roegge . He was also the editor and illustrator of Hans Eisenhart. A German fleet book that appeared in several editions from 1905.

Friedrich von Boetticher lists the following oil paintings by Lindner in his 19th century painters 'works : A desolate Mark , which is based on a dilapidated farm during the Thirty Years' War in Northern Germany (Dresden ak. KA 89), Westphalian Heidehof (Sächs. KV 89) and summer day in the Kiel Föhrde (Sächs. KV 93). The drawings listed include the Neuchâtel jungle in Oldenburg , torch fire (ship in distress) , furnace in a storm , enterdivision and other depictions of naval battles.
