Ferdinand Mazanek
Ferdinand Mazanek (born February 14, 1901 in Kronstadt , † November 4, 1980 in Sibiu ) was a Transylvanian graphic artist and painter .
Life
Mazanek lived and worked as a painter and illustrator in Sibiu. Mazanek also became famous in Germany and Austria through his numerous woodcuts with Transylvanian city motifs. Solo exhibitions of his work also took place abroad, including in Riga and Leipzig .
The Brukenthal Museum in Sibiu owns and exhibits parts of his work on a regular basis. In 2009, prints and linocuts were presented there in a solo exhibition . The exhibition contained exhibits from all of the artist's work eras.
Mazanek's graphics primarily depict scenes of everyday life, motifs from peasant life and everyday culture. Mazanek also created several cycles of etchings about the architecture of the city of Sibiu and about fortified churches typical of the Transylvanian landscape . Other motifs in Mazanek's works were the characteristic tower of the evangelical Margathenkirche in Mediaş and the Argeş dam near Vidraru .
