Ferdinand Rosenhagen

Johann Georg Ferdinand Rosenhagen (born November 16, 1830 in Ahrensburg , † January 30, 1920 in Altona ) was a Prussian government councilor as well as a senator and mayor of the city of Altona.

Life

Johann Georg Ferdinand Rosenhagen was born in Ahrensburg as the son of the estate inspector Georg Christoph Rosenhagen . As a pupil he was taught by Pastor Carl Nicolaus Kähler in Flemhude before he attended grammar schools in Flensburg and Schleswig. In 1848 he went to the Schleswig-Holstein Army as a volunteer and took part in the battle of Idstedt in the course of the Schleswig-Holstein Uprising in 1850 . He studied law in Kiel and Jena and in 1855, after passing his exams, became the legal secretary in Wandsbek .

After 1864 he worked for the newly established Prussian administration in Schleswig , most recently as a councilor, before he was elected senator in Altona in 1870. In 1883 he finally became the city's second mayor and held this office until 1908. In addition, in 1905 he was temporarily responsible for the city's mayor for nine months.

Since 1865 Rosenhagen was with Emily, geb. Lundt, married, her eldest son was the philologist Gustav Rosenhagen . Ferdinand Rosenhagen was the bearer of the Knight's Cross of the Imperial Brazilian Rose Order . In 1908 he was made an honorary citizen of Altona and received the Prussian Royal Order of the Crown, 2nd class.
