Gregor Clemens Kähler (born March 2, 1841 in Flemhude , † January 9, 1912 in Altona-Ottensen ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran pastor and theologian .

Life

Gregor Clemens Kähler was born in Flemhude as the son of the Evangelical-Lutheran theologian and educator Carl Nicolaus Kähler . After attending grammar school and then having sailed for four years as a cabin boy, he enrolled in Protestant theology at the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel in October 1862 . He passed his exam in 1866 "with honorable distinction" and was then pastor in the parish of Sankt Annen in Dithmarschen from 1866 to 1873 . In 1869, like his father decades earlier, he ran as a monastery preacher in Kiel, but was then appointed as a deacon at the Christian Church in Ottensen in 1873 - a position that had been newly created as the congregation grew. In 1892 he succeeded Provost Hans Friedrich Neelsen in order to take over the newly established "southern district" of the constantly expanding Ottensen community in the following year.

Until his death, Kähler worked as a pastor in Ottensen for almost four decades, which changed from a small town to a heavily industrialized part of the city of Altona during this period . Along with the population growth, the Diakonie with many new tasks had a high priority in the church work, for which he was particularly committed. Kähler was u. a. "Seemannsgeistlicher", school inspector of the Ottensener elementary school and chairman of the church council.

His many years of theological practice found its way into the work, which was written in the first edition by his father, and which he has revised, The Christian Doctrine according to Luther's Little Catechism. His memorandum on the centenary of the death of Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock , who is buried in the cemetery of the Christian Church, is received as a source up to the present day .

Gregor Clemens Kähler is the father of the lawyer and legal historian Otto Kähler .
