Friedrich Hashagen

Johann Friedrich Hashagen (born October 4, 1841 in Leuchtenburg (Schwanewede) , † November 6, 1925 in Göttingen ) was a German Lutheran theologian and university professor.

Life

Hashagen attended high school in Bremen and the cathedral school in Verden and studied theology at the universities of Erlangen and Göttingen from 1861 . In 1866 he passed the examen pro ministerio before the consistory in Stade and was ordained by the general superintendent Justus Alexander Saxer . In the same year he became parish clerk in Daverden , in 1869 pastor in Schwanewede , in 1871 pastor at the Kreuzkirche in Bremerhaven . From 1879 to 1886 he was the first theological teacher at the Missionshaus in Leipzig and from 1886 to 1888 preacher in Eisenach. He refused an appointment as a pastor in Leipzig. In 1888 he became a full professor of theology and director of the homiletic-catechetical seminar at the University of Rostock . In 1891/82, 1896/97, 1901/02, 1906/07 and 1912/13 he was dean of the theological faculty. From 1888 to 1915 he also served as a university preacher. Together with Julius Pentzlin, he constituted the Lutheran League and with this in 1899 founded the journal Der alte Glaube . In 1910 he was appointed consistorial councilor. He was also a member of the Bible Alliance . In 1913 he was retired.

Hashagen was married to a daughter of the general superintendent Justus Ruperti . The historian Justus Hashagen emerged from the marriage.
