Justus Ruperti (around 1890)

Hans Heinrich Justus Philipp Ruperti (born December 21, 1833 in Kirchosten , † May 16, 1899 in Neumünster ) was a German Lutheran clergyman.

family

Justus Ruperti was a son of pastor Ernst Ruperti, who later served as pastor and superintendent in Lesum , as well as the grandson of general superintendent Georg Alexander Ruperti and nephew of church president Friedrich Conrad Dietrich Wyneken .

Life

Ruperti studied theology in Göttingen and Erlangen . During his studies in Erlangen in 1852 he became a member of the Christian student union Uttenruthia . As a candidate in 1856, Ruperti was appointed preacher to the chapel of the emigration center in Bremerhaven by the Bremen merchants . In the fall of 1857 he passed the theological exam. He was one of the initiators of an application from 46 Lutheran family heads to the Bremen Senate to found an Evangelical Lutheran congregation in Bremerhaven. When the petition was rejected, a Lutheran Association was set up to accept and entertain a Lutheran preacher who, after his official recognition, employed Ruperti as pastor. On January 7, 1862, he was ordained in Stade . The date is considered to be the founding date of the Kreuzkirche community in Bremerhaven .

In 1871 Ruperti was appointed to the post of first pastor of St. Marien in Geestendorf (Geestemünde) by the General Consistory of the General Diocese of Bremen-Verden . In 1873 he moved to St. Matthew's German Church in New York as pastor . Since he couldn't stand the climate, he returned to Germany in 1876. In 1876 Ruperti was appointed by the Grand Duke of Oldenburg as superintendent and councilor in Eutin . On February 23, 1891, he became a secret councilor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Schleswig-Holstein and general superintendent for their district Holstein , based in Kiel . In May 1899, after a sermon in Neumünster, he suffered a stroke, which he died two days later in the parsonage there.
