Ernst Wallroth

Ernst Elisa Theodor Wallroth (born July 29, 1851 in Oldenburg (Oldb) , † March 14, 1912 in Kiel ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman. From 1900 to 1912 he was general superintendent for Holstein.

Life

Ernst Wallroth was the ninth child of the Oldenburg court preacher and then superintendent in Eutin Anton Wallroth and his wife Conradine Catharine Marie, nee. Tischbein (1810–1890), a daughter of the painter Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein .

He attended high school in Eutin, today's Johann Heinrich Voss School , until he graduated from high school in 1870 and studied Protestant theology at the universities of Jena, Tübingen, Leipzig and Kiel. After his official examination , which he passed with the 2nd character at Easter 1876 , he worked as an educator and private tutor in Basel , Stockholm and Rome . In 1879 he was ordained pastor; He found his first job as an assistant preacher in Sülfeld . After a short time as the third pastor in Eutin, he became pastor of the Marienkirche in Ahrensbök in 1880 and pastor of the main church of St. Trinitatis (Altona) in 1892 . Here he became provost of the Altona provost in 1895.

On April 18, 1900, he succeeded the late Justus Ruperti as general superintendent for Holstein. The theological faculty of the University of Kiel awarded him an honorary doctorate (D.) in the same year.

From 1897 he was chairman of the Schleswig-Holstein Mission Conference and from 1902 chairman of the Breklumer Mission . In contrast to his father, he was personally on the right wing of the Church and represented a positive theology.

Since 1880 he was married to the officer's daughter Clara, b. Roehl, sister of General Maximilian von Roehl .

His estate is kept in the Eutin State Library.
