Walter Göbell

Walter Ernst Otto Rudolf Göbell (* July 22, 1911 in Nordhackstedt ; † January 22, 1988 in Kiel ) was a German Protestant - Lutheran pastor and doctorate and habilitated church historian , from 1957 to 1976 professor of church history and church law at the theological faculty of the university Kiel .

Walter Göbell was the son of the Nordhackstedter pastor Otto Göbell (1882–1964), who served from 1916 to 1920 in Schiffbek and from 1920 to 1951 as the second pastor at the Nikolaikirche in Flensburg .

After attending school and high school, Göbell studied Protestant theology in Tübingen and Münster from 1931 and law in Kiel and Berlin from 1934–1936. During his studies at the University of Tübingen in 1933 he was the head of the Evangelical Theological Student Council and made sure that the lectures carried “the stamp of the National Socialist worldview”. After graduating from theology, Göbell completed his vicariate; in the winter semester of 1935/36 he was on the vicar's course in the preacher's seminary in Preetz . He was ordained in Kiel on May 3, 1936. On May 20, 1936 he was assistant chaplain at the "Central Association of Inner Mission " of the German Evangelical Church (DEK) in Berlin . Until 1942 he was a research assistant in Berlin. During this time he was able to complete his doctorate on the preliminary stages of the Rhenish-Westphalian church order by the year 1610 with Hans Lietzmann .

From October 1945 he served as an assistant chaplain in his father's congregation in Flensburg. With effect from December 18, 1947 he was accepted into the service of the Schleswig-Holstein regional church and initially worked as a pastor in the preacher's seminary in Preetz . On December 12, 1948, he took over the pastorate in Oeversee .

Göbell had completed his habilitation in Berlin with a thesis on The Rhenish-Westphalian Church Ordinance on March 5 , 1835 , and was re-qualified in 1949 in Kiel. Since November 1, 1952, he has been a private lecturer in Kiel and on October 31, 1957, he was appointed Professor of Church History, Church Law and Schleswig-Holstein Church History at the Christian Albrechts University in Kiel. He retired in 1976.

Göbell was married and had three children.
