Anton Friedrich Christoph Wallroth

Anton Friedrich Christoph Wallroth (born May 3, 1803 in Eutin ; † April 4, 1876 ibid) was a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman. From 1852 until his death he was the leading clergyman in the Principality of Lübeck .

Life

Anton Friedrich Christoph Wallroth was a son of the former deputy principal and later pastor in Malente Karl Friedrich Wallroth (1762-1813) and his wife Catharina Elisabeth, née von der Hude (1765-1819). He attended high school in Eutin, today's Johann Heinrich Voss School , until he graduated from high school in 1821 (together with Friedrich Adolf Trendelenburg ) and studied Protestant theology and philology and philosophy at the universities of Kiel , Berlin and Bonn . As a student of Friedrich Schleiermacher and August Twesten , he was close to liberal theology .

In 1828 he passed his official theological examination in Oldenburg and was employed as the fourth collaborator at the Oldenburg grammar school . In 1829 he moved to the then Eutin City School as vice principal.

In 1832 he was appointed compastor at the St. Michaelis Church in Eutin.

In 1837 he went back to Oldenburg as court and garrison preacher and became a member of the consistory and director of the Cäcilienschule Oldenburg here in 1838 . In 1849 he was a member of the commission that was supposed to work out a constitution for the Evangelical Church in the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg . He took an active part in the negotiations of the constituent synod, but on July 3, 1849 refused to sign the new church constitution and left the synod. Although he was intended as an extraordinary member of the upper church council, who was to replace the grand ducal consistory, he initially remained court preacher and co-director of the Cecilia school.

In 1852, Grand Duke August appointed him as court preacher in Eutin, senior church councilor and superintendent of the Principality of Lübeck. He was also a full member of the government in Eutin. The previous superintendent Nicolaus Nielsen had been called to Oldenburg as senior court preacher and church councilor. In 1865 Wallroth received the title of Privy Councilor of Churches and in 1873 he was awarded the Knight's Cross First Class of the Oldenburg House and Merit Order of Duke Peter Friedrich Ludwig .

His successor was Justus Ruperti .

family

Wallroth was married to Conradine Catharine Marie, born in 1833. Tischbein (1810–1890), a daughter of the painter Johann Heinrich Wilhelm Tischbein . Of the couple's sons, Peter (1844–1895) was appointed chief magistrate and father of Anton Wallroth and Ernst (1851–1912) in 1900 general superintendent of Holstein. The daughter Martha (1836–1923) married the Oldenburg Higher Appeal Court Vice-President Ernst FJ Ruhstrat (1815–1890), the daughter Nanny married the later Prussian Major General Anton Bernhard Karl Hakewessel .
