Karl August Maximilian Roehl , von Roehl since 1912 , (born August 6, 1853 in Stralsund ; † July 9, 1922 ) was a Prussian artillery general .

Life

origin

He was the son of the Prussian Colonel Karl Johann August Roehl (1822–1890) and his wife Friederike Flora Schwing, widowed Picht (1815–1901).

Military career

Roehl joined the Lower Silesian Field Artillery Regiment No. 5 in Posen in 1870 . In the Franco-Prussian War he took part in the rank of second lieutenant from December 31, 1870 . From 1877 to 1880 he attended the military academy , where he was promoted to prime lieutenant in 1879 . After he had been in command of the general staff for a few years and worked as a surveyor at the land survey , he was transferred to the general staff after his appointment as captain . On January 27, 1890, he was appointed battery chief in Schleswig's field artillery regiment No. 9 in Rendsburg . Under the promotion to Major Roehl as was the following year general staff officer in the 21st Division of Frankfurt and a year later in the XI. Army corps transferred to Kassel . In 1895 he was appointed department commander of the field artillery regiment No. 34 in Metz and in 1896 promoted to lieutenant colonel. In December 1897 he came to the staff of the 2nd Rhenish Field Artillery Regiment No. 23 in Cologne and in 1898 became Chief of the General Staff of the VI. Army Corps in Wroclaw . A year later he was promoted to colonel and shortly afterwards, on April 22, 1902, he was appointed commander of the 28th field artillery brigade in Karlsruhe . In June 1902 he was promoted to major general. With his promotion to Lieutenant General on April 24, 1906, Roehl moved to the head of the 8th Division in Halle (Saale) . Under awarding of the character he was on 21 March 1910, the legal as Artillery General Board for disposition made.

On January 27, 1912, Roehl was raised to the Prussian nobility .

At the beginning of the First World War , Roehl was reused as a ZD officer. Due to his age, he was no longer given a front command. In the home army he was from August 2, 1914 as Commanding General of the Deputy General Command of the IX. Army Corps in Altona entrusted with its management. On the occasion of his resignation on June 1, 1916, his achievements were honored by the Emperor with the award of the Order of the Red Eagle First Class with Oak Leaves.

In 1879 Roehl married Ottililie Luise Klara Ester (* 1860) in Berlin . The marriage resulted in four daughters and three sons:
