Ferdinand Zangerl (born April 20, 1813 in Tobadill , Tyrol , † August 6, 1865 in Bork ) was an Austrian master builder of classicism who mainly worked in the province of Westphalia .
Life
He was born on April 20, 1813 on a farm near Tobadill in the Stanzertal in Tyrol . There he completed an apprenticeship as a bricklayer, but, like many other Tyroleans, left his home country due to overpopulation, unemployment and general poverty.
Via Cologne he came to Bork in what was then the province of Westphalia . There he settled in the house at Hauptstrasse 1, founded a construction company and built numerous buildings in the immediate vicinity and further afield.

In 1845/46 he had the classicist Buddenberg Castle near Lünen built for Baron August von Frydag in the style of Prussian classicism . The model was obviously Tegel Castle near Berlin, designed 20 years earlier by Karl Friedrich Schinkel . In 1856/57 he built a windmill in Bork-Hassel for Friedrich Wiggers, who was previously Schlossmüller at Schloss Cappenberg and who had settled in Bork. Bernhard Haverbeck later took over this mill. From 1861 to 1862 the still existing manor of the Scheda estate near Wickede was built for Ludwig Ferdinand Graf von Kielmannsegg , son-in-law of Baron Heinrich Friedrich Karl vom und zum Stein zu Cappenberg .
In the spring of 1865 he was on his way to Dorsten to hand over wages to his workers there. In the Hervest-Dorstener Wald he was attacked by two robbers and mistreated with kicks. He died of internal injuries on August 6, 1865, leaving behind his wife Elisabeth, b. Weber (born November 5, 1818), four daughters and a son, Franz Carl Joseph (born January 24, 1857).
His gravestone in the cemetery in Bork has been preserved (2012), the epitaph is partly weathered. It is located on the 12th statue of the Way of the Cross, which Pastor Bernhard Pröbsting had erected in 1865.
