Ferdinand Prince of Solms-Hohensolms-Lich (* 25. May 1886 in Lübbenau , † 1. September 1918 at St. Quentin , northern France) was a German aristocrat and officer in the First World War .

Live and act

Ferdinand was the eldest son of Prince Ludwig zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich (1851-1913) and his wife Luise, Countess zu Lynar (1864-1943). He was the grandson of Prince Ferdinand zu Solms-Hohensolms-Lich (1806–1876) and Caroline, Countess of Collalto and San Salvatore (1818–1855). As a member of the media- family Solms-Hohensolms-Lich he was as " Excellency born addressed".

From 1914 the then 28-year-old prince was lieutenant and adjutant of the infantry regiment "Grand Duke of Saxony" (5th Thuringian) No. 94 , which was used in numerous battles on the Eastern and Western Fronts.

Prince Ferdinand made it to captain and finally, at the age of 31, to commander of the 1st battalion of the infantry regiment "Grand Duke of Saxony". In the course of the 128 combat operations in which he was involved, he suffered 10 wounds, some of them severe. He fell when his regiment was wiped out by Australian combat units on September 1, 1918. Prince Ferdinand received a number of special military awards, including the Iron Cross 1st and 2nd Class, the Pour le Mérite , the Royal House Order of Hohenzollern with Swords.
