Fernando Bernabé Agüero Rocha (born June 11, 1920 in Managua , † September 28, 2011 ) was a Nicaraguan politician and member of the government junta during the dictatorship of the Somoza clan in Nicaragua .

Life

Fernando Bernabé Agüero Rocha was a medical doctor . He was a charismatic public speaker in the 1960s . He was leader of the Partido Conservador Republicano .

The alliance Unión Nacional Opositora set up Fernando Agüero Rocha as a common candidate for the presidency in 1966 for the 1967 elections. A joint demonstration by this alliance in Managua on January 22, 1967 was put down with the massacre on Avenida Roosevelt . Agüero had fled to a hotel with his bodyguard, Edén Pastora Gómez .

The days after January 22, 1967 meant murder, torture and asylum seekers in the embassies of Managua, a state of emergency was decreed even though it was election time. The regime also sent the prisoners to an Air Force prison, where the prisoners were urinated from above in a swimming pool and stones were thrown on them. On February 5, 1967, presidential elections took place: the Partido Liberal Nacionalista received 480,162 votes (74%), the UN 157,432 votes (24%), of which the Partido Conservador de Nicaragua received 14,650 votes (2%).

The presidential candidate Agüero signed a pact with Anastasio Somoza Debayle on March 28, 1967 in the Teatro Rubén Darío , became a member of the Junta Nacional de Gobierno from May 1, 1972 to March 1, 1973 and allowed Anastasio Somoza Debayle to be re-elected president, which is why he was viewed as a traitor in his party.

In 1971, he concluded the "Kupia Kumi" (language of the Miskito : one heart ) pact with Anastasio Somoza Debayle . The pact split the Partido Conservador . Pedro Chamorro 's Unión Democrática de Liberación (UDEL) belonged to the negative group .

Shortly after July 19, 1979, Aguero Rocha went into exile in Miami and his ranch in Boaco Department was confiscated. He became active on the side of the Contra and in 1988 he belonged to a delegation of the Contra, which negotiated in Sapoá.

Agüero Rocha founded the Partido Social Conservador and got his ranch back after 1990.
