Telecommunication Museum Aachen
The Telecommunications Museum Aachen is a museum founded on July 1, 1997 on the premises of the Telekom in Aachen , which deals with the history of communications technology. On an exhibition area of 360 m², the museum shows telecommunications systems and exhibits from the years 1863 to 1990, which were mainly used by the Deutsche Bundespost and its predecessor and successor organizations.
The highlight of the collection is considered to be the technical facilities that were found after the reunification of Germany as part of the reconstruction aid in the then telecommunications office in Aachen in the telecommunications offices in Cottbus and Potsdam . These devices, which were no longer in use in the west, were dismantled as part of the technical renovation and brought to Aachen. This was the starting point of the initiative to set up the Telecommunications Museum.
The museum is run by a voluntary association that was formed on June 27, 1996 and entered in the register of associations on May 23, 1997. The association now has around 80 members.
