The North Eifel natural history educational institution is located in the Lammersdorf primary school (Kalltalschule) in Simmerath and is based on an initiative by the chief forester Juergen Mueller. The collection was opened in 1967 and shows with over 100 exhibits characteristic examples of the flora and fauna of the northern Eifel and the High Fens, including an extensive butterfly collection. The disabled-friendly rooms can be visited during school hours by appointment. This museum facility aims to appeal to laypeople who are interested in biology and to provide an insight into the rich nature of this region. In addition, two forest officials offer a guided tour through the surrounding forest and forest areas up to the Kalltalsperre .
