The Buchholz branch church is a church building in the Roman Catholic parish of Afritz . It is consecrated to St. Lambert and is located in the scattered settlement of Buchholz in the municipality of Treffen in an open field at an altitude of 924 meters on the western flank of the Gerlitzen massif above the region valley .

history

Buchholz was named as a branch church of Treffen in 1615 . From 1756 onwards, a Cistercian monk from Viktring in Buchholz was in charge of a mission station to combat secret Protestantism . In 1783, as part of the Josephine reforms , Buchholz was detached from the mother parish, and a local chaplaincy set up under the patronage of the Carinthian Religious Fund. Buchholz, which was an independent parish from 1898, has been part of the Afritz parish since 1964 .

description

The church is a small Gothic building with a retracted choir and western vestibule. The brick-built western roof turret is crowned by a baroque onion helmet with a lantern . The bell was cast by Georg Renner in 1573. North of the choir is the sacristy with two late Gothic windows. A fresco of St. Christopher has been preserved on the south wall .

Inside, a pointed triumphal arch connects the nave and the choir. The nave has a flat baroque stucco ceiling, the choir a barrel vault with stitch caps and a five-eighth end . A profiled, late Gothic shoulder arch portal with covings and heraldic dome leads through an iron-studded door into the sacristy with a star ridge vault.

Facility

The baroque high altar with columns and sacrificial portals fills the choir in height and width. The altar is a late work by Johann Pacher from 1768. The altar sheet shows St. Lambert, the church saint. In the top, the statues of Saints John the Baptist and Lambert flank a carved coronation of Mary .

The left side altar, made by Josef Kapfer in 1744 and painted by Johann Rudolf in 1777, shows a protective cloak Madonna in the middle picture and Saint Florian in the top picture . The figures of the princes of the apostles Peter and Paul are on the side .

The pulpit was built around 1725/30 and shows the four evangelists on the parapet .
