The felt cups ( Tapesia ) are a genus of fungi from the Dermateaceae family . There are around 20 species in Central Europe. They live saprophytically on dead plant remains. The type species is Tapesia fusca .

description

The felt cups form small apothecia with an outer (ectal) excipulum , i.e. a hyphae that surrounds the actual fruiting body . They also have a subiculum , a basal hyphae . Tapesia is very similar to Mollisia . The only difference between the two genera is that in Tapesia the fruiting bodies sit on the aforementioned subiculum. However, this is often hardly noticeable. Your Ascus-Porus turns purple in Lugol .

Ecology and habitat

Many species live saprophytically on dead wood of various trees, but some also live parasitically on different grasses. Among the latter is particularly Tapesia yallundae to mention that in their secondary fruit form the eyespot in cereals triggers. The main fruit form is formed on dead, not harvested stalks.

Systematics

Some authors assume that Mollisia and Tapesia belong together. According to Aebi, the name Tapesia would have priority because it has existed for a longer time. According to the Index Fungorum, however, both genera are currently separated.

Types (selection)

The exact number of species is unknown, also due to the uncertain systematic position. The index fungorum gives 157 species, but many are a noun dubium . Gerhard gives the number for Europe as 20, the database of mushrooms in Austria lists 4 species.
