Final Dawn is a Finnish thrash and death metal band from Oulu that was formed in 2000.

history

The band was founded in the summer of 2000 by singer and guitarist Vesa Mattila, drummer Mikko Törmänen and bassist Hessu Meriläinen. In spring 2001, Marko Leiviskä joined as the second guitarist. The demo Suicide of Your World was recorded in their rehearsal room in April and then sent to various labels. However, a record deal remained. Toni Laine was added as the new bass player in August, before the demo Aggression Overdrive , which contains two songs, was recorded at Tico Tico Studios in September . Towards the end of the year, a music video for the theme song was created under the direction of VP Haastola. In the fall of 2001 and spring of 2002, the group held a few gigs and took part in a band competition in Oulu, in which they took second place. After promoting the demo, the group signed a recording deal with Rafe of Achilles Records , a small English label, in the beginning of summer 2002 . In January 2003 an EP with five songs was recorded in the Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki , before the label was separated in the spring. Instead, they signed a contract with New Aeon Media , a sub-label of Karmageddon Media , in November . The group went back to Sonic Pump Studios to record three more songs, which, along with five already recorded, made the album Under the Bleeding Sky . The album was released in March 2004. In the USA , the album was released on Candlelight Records . Mattila then moved to Helsinki, which meant a break for the band. After devoting himself to other projects like Codeon , he revived Final Dawn in 2007 with bassist and drummer Leonard.

style

rockdetector.com assigned the band to death metal, while they themselves describe their music as "Melodic Aggrometal". Jason MacNeil of Allmusic wrote in his review of Under the Bleeding Sky that the album had influences from Nu Metal . The song Solemn Art has elements from classic metal that cannot be assigned to either dark or death metal. The singing consists of dark and even growls that would evoke memories of Rammstein . Doze sounds a lot like Iron Maiden and Megadeth . There are elements from Death Metal that can hardly be made out in Regression Is Transgression . My Pain is reminiscent of Mötley Crües Looks That Kill . Nightstalker from Metal.de stated in his album review that the song material did not come close to that of the bands Children of Bodom and Megadeth mentioned as influences . Overall, the music could be described as similar to the one on the Merciless album Unbound if the melodies were omitted.
