Fiorenzo Abbondio (born June 22, 1892 in Ascona , † March 13, 1980 in Muralto ) was a Swiss sculptor .

Live and act

Fiorenzo was the son of Carlo Abbondio; his brother was the poet Valerio Abbondio .

From 1905 to 1909 he completed an apprenticeship as a stone carver in the Fossati workshop in Muralto. He then studied at the Brera Art Academy in Milan with Giuseppe Palanti and Giulio Branca until 1918 . He then toured Rome , Florence , Venice and Naples . He worked in Milan until 1943 , in Balerna until 1947 and in Muralto from 1948

Abbondio created sculptures such as monuments, tombs and busts. He had a penchant for religious and patriotic works. Much of his work can be found in the Ascona cemetery.

In Muralto, on the Lungolago promenade, there is a monument in honor of Giuseppe Cattori , which Abbondio created in 1939. A bronze relief stands on a granite base . This shows Giuseppe Cattori, larger than life, giving a speech. Different people can be seen in the plinth, listening to him or talking about his speech

Further works are located in the canton of Ticino, in the rest of Switzerland and in Italy in public buildings, cemeteries and parks. In Minusio is the Fiorenzo-Abbondio Museum
