Fyodor Ilyich Dan

Fyodor Ilyich Dan ( Russian Фёдор Ильич Дан , actually Fyodor Ilyich Gurwitsch ; born October 19, 1871 in Saint Petersburg , † January 22, 1947 in New York ) was a Russian doctor and leading Menshevik .

Dan became a member of the Social Democratic Party in 1894 and, in 1896, was the founder of the " Combat League for the Liberation of the Working Class " together with Lenin and Martov . After the February Revolution in 1917 he was a member of the Petrograd Soviet , after the October Revolution he fought against the government of the Bolsheviks . He was arrested in 1921 and expelled from the Soviet Union in 1922 . He then lived in Berlin (where he published his memoirs in 1922), Paris and New York.

Fyodor Dan was married to Martow's sister Lydia Cederbaum . Their daughter Anna died in childhood.
