fjum_forum journalismus und medien wien is an Austrian training institution for journalists and media professionals based in Vienna .
organization
fjum_forum journalismus und medien was founded in 2011 as a non-profit association and is an independent and not-for-profit training institution for journalism and media in Austria .
The advisory board and journalistic advisory board advise and support the program design and basic orientation of fjum. Members of the scientific advisory board are José Garcia Aviles (University of Elche), Annette Hillebrand (former head of the German Academy for Journalism ), Andy Kaltenbrunner (Medienhaus Wien), Matthias Karmasin ( Alpen Adria University of Klagenfurt ), Sylvia Egli von Matt (former director MAZ - The Swiss School of Journalism.).
From 2011 to 2018 Daniela Kraus was the managing director of fjum. On February 18, 2019, Simon Kravagna takes over the management.
Financing is provided by public funding (e.g. press funding), participant contributions, grants, project funds (e.g. aws_Austria Wirtschaftsservice ) and sponsorship funds .
Program and activities
fjum offers further training for journalists and media professionals with a focus on digital journalism, journalistic craft, innovation, journalistic context and audience engagement .
Every year fjum organizes around sixty events, workshops, conferences and discussions in Austria. The offer includes workshops and training courses as well as courses, including the digital journalism certificate course.
In addition to the range of courses, fjum organizes discussion and networking events as well as industry events, including the GEN Summit, the Media Innovation Day #MID or the Audience Engagement Day.
fjum was - together with the German University for Continuing Education (DUW) in Berlin - the supporting organization of the international executive master's program "International Media Innovation Management".
Cooperation and network
The fjum_Team works in a network of national and international experts and cooperates with organizations that provide training in journalism. The cooperation partners include Austrian and international media houses such as Austria Presse Agentur , Ö1 and publishers, TV and radio stations, journalistic start-ups, investigative platforms as well as universities and international training partners in journalism.
Internationally, fjum works with the GEN - Global Editors Network , International Journalism Festival in Perugia, the European Union (European Parliament, European Commission), the School of Journalism at the University of Oregon in Portland, the Poynter Institute , and CUNY Graduate School of Journalism / New York City, the Poynter Institute in Florida.
National cooperation partners include the Institute for Comparative Media and Communication Research (CMC) of the Austrian Academy of Sciences , Medienhaus Wien and the Concordia Press Club .
Lecturer
Journalists and media experts from Austria such as Ingrid Brodnig , Sybille Hamann , Florian Klenk and Eva Linsinger teach at fjum . For international lecturers and network partners, fjum is the contact and coordinator of new projects. The international speakers include Wolfgang Blau (digital director of Condé Nast International ), Ken Doctor (consultant and author of "Newsonomics"), Jost Lübben (editor-in-chief of Westfalenpost), Lauren Kessler (storytelling professor at the University of Oregon), Lucy Küng (Media Economics Professor St. Gallen / Fellow at the Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism , Oxford), Anita Zielina (former Digital Director NZZ) and Ulrik Haagerup (Editor-in-Chief of Danish Broadcasting).
