The Fleur de Passion is an expedition ship sailing under the Swiss flag , which is supposed to document the pollution of the oceans, especially with plastic. The former war fishing cutter is now rigged as a gaff rigged ketch and belongs to the Association Pacifique based in Carouge .
history
The later Fleur de Passion was probably built in Bremen in 1941 as a war fishing cutter (KFK). The Navy built during the Second World War, about 600 of these ships to monitor the coast and for dispensing mines . The ships consisted of a steel frame with oak planking. Their peculiarity was that they could also sail when there was a lack of fuel due to the war .
After the end of the war, the ship fell to France as a war reparation and served the French Navy as a transport boat under the name Tréberon . The military career ended in Brest around 1970.
In 1976 the armament was dismantled and the ship was sold to a private individual. During a seven-year conversion phase, a ketch rig was installed and the ship was given the current name Fleur de Passion .
The ship, which is in a desolate condition, was discovered in 2001 by sailing friends from Geneva during a diving holiday in Toulon . They bought it for educational and scientific purposes and established for the association Association Pacifique . The ship was repaired in Marseille for six years . It set sail for the first time on July 11, 2009 and began its career as an expedition and excursion ship. With a length of 33 meters, the ship is the largest sailing ship under the Swiss flag.
expedition
The Fleur de Passion is used for exploring rarely traveled areas of the ocean. Its aim is to collect data on the pollution of the oceans with plastic. Sensors also measure carbon dioxide and methane gas concentrations in the air and water. The four-year expedition around the world follows in the footsteps of Ferdinand Magellan .
The ship is sailed with four permanent crew members, 12 berths are available to alternate sailors.
