Flexevil
Flexevil is a German hip-hop group.
Band history
The formation was founded in Berlin in 1998 and has been under contract with the Respect or Tolerate (ROT) label since 1999 . It consists of three MCs , a DJ and a bass player . Despite earlier, smaller publications, e.g. B. individual songs on the ROT label night tape (January 2003), the first album David vs. Goliath only in 2005 with the major label Universal / Island . The singles were u. a. Played on the Berlin radio station Fritz , but did not make it into the charts .
Her style is clearly distanced from US gangsta rap , with Mos Def , Talib Kweli , The Streets and Common being named as role models . Although they prefer to make party songs and also rap about sexuality , they largely avoid sexist content and often deal with social issues.
The album David vs. Goliath stood out in its form from other publications, as it combines the songs with a radio play , the plot of which develops without a fixed chronology with the lyrics of the songs as action elements or inner view of a character . Members of the Berlin dubbing scene , for example the German voices of Tom Cruise , Brittany Murphy and Ashton Kutcher, could be heard as speakers . The background is that MC BreitamMic aka Tobias Müller himself since childhood as a voice actor works (eg. As the German voice of the main character in the anime Detective Conan ).
The group was voted into the finals with their song Thank you at the 2005 Protest Song Contest - a competition jointly organized by the Rabenhof Theater Vienna and the Austrian radio station FM4 on February 12th . There Flexevil came first in the online voting , but only achieved ninth and penultimate place in the jury's assessment .
