Island Def Jam Music Group

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Island Def Jam Music Group was a record label that was created in 1999 through the merger of Island Records and Def Jam Recordings . The label belonged to the Universal Music Group , which in turn was a subsidiary of the Vivendi media group (previously Vivendi Universal). In 2011 the traditional label Motown , which joined Universal in 2005, was struck by Island Def Jam. Barry Weiss, who had come from Sony Music , replaced LA Reid as chairman of the new triple label. After only three years, however, the merger was canceled and the three independent labels were restored.
