Florián Zajíc (born May 4, 1853 in Unhošť , Bohemia , † May 17, 1926 in Berlin ) was a Czech violinist and music teacher .

Life

Zajic grew up as a child of impoverished parents, Jakob Zajic and Vileminy Kovarfik in Bohemia. Only with the help of scholarships he was able to study violin for eight years with Moritz Mildner and Antonin Bennewitz at the Prague Conservatory . After his training he first became a member of the Augsburg theater orchestra, later concertmaster in Mannheim , Strasbourg (from 1881) and Hamburg (from 1889), where he also worked as a teacher of Paul Dessau . Zajic followed Émile Sauret in 1891 as a violin teacher at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin , where he was later appointed professor. On October 1, 1895, he joined the faculty of the Berlin Conservatory Klindworth-Scharwenka.

He played the Del Gésu violin from 1740, which became famous as "Heifetz ex David". He had acquired it in 1885 from the estate of Ferdinand David .
