Gaul at the German Championships 2015

Florian Gaul (born September 21, 1991 ) is a German pole vaulter .

career path

In 2010 Gaul did his Abitur and then community service at the Olympic base in Stuttgart . Florian Gaul is a student of aerospace engineering.

Athletic career

Even as a teenager, Gaul was one of the best German pole vaulters in his age group. At the German youth championships in 2008, he took 2nd place in the U18 age group. In 2010 he won his first German championship title in the U20 age group. In the following years he also remained one of the most outstanding pole vaulters in Germany in the junior division (U23): in 2011 he reached 3rd place, in 2012 he was junior champion, in 2013 he was second. As a result, he was nominated twice for the U23 European Championships. In 2011 in Ostrava he was eliminated with a jumped height of 4.80 m in the qualification, in 2013 in Tampere he was ninth with 5.30 m.

Since 2013 he has always been in the top eight of the German championships for adults, but was never among the top three pole vaulters until 2016. So far he has only managed to do this indoors when he was runner-up in 2014 with a 5.50 m.

In 2016 he was unlucky despite new best performances: he jumped the required qualification levels for both the European Championships and the Olympic Games a few days after the nomination ended.

In 2017 Gaul became German indoor runner-up . At the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade , his stick broke while jumping in, and he was unable to jump because of severe pain in his hand and knee.

Florian Gaul is 1.82 m tall and has a competition weight of 82 kg. He is studying aerospace engineering.

Club membership

He started for LG Leinfelden-Echterdingen until 2010, and for VfL Sindelfingen since 2011 .
