Florian Hoffmann (* 1981 ) is a German social entrepreneur and founder of The DO School . He sits on the board of directors of the World Future Council and was named one of the 100 Young Global Leaders under 40 by the World Economic Forum in 2017 .

As an investor and founder of companies and non-profit organizations in Germany, the USA and Hong Kong, he regularly addresses topics such as social innovation, the future of education and sustainable entrepreneurship. Hoffman gives lectures on The DO School Method, for example at the Hasso Plattner Institute at the University of Potsdam, Oxford University , Columbia University , the University of Geneva and the EBS University of Business and Law. His work has been featured in publications such as the Financial Times , the Wall Street Journal , Brand eins , the FAZ , the Zeit , the Süddeutsche Zeitung and others.

Early life and education

Florian Hoffmann grew up in Tübingen and Ibiza. He played handball at VfL Pfullingen and is listed in the European Handball Federation . Hoffmann graduated from high school at Kepler-Gymnasium Tübingen and was active there as head boy.

He studied at Bard College Berlin , Duke University , Humboldt University Berlin and St Antony's College , Oxford. At Duke University, Frederick Jameson and Peter Feaver were among his professors. Hoffmann wrote his BA on normative foreign policy, supervised by Ellen M. Immergut . He was also a participant in the Harvard Project for Asian and International Relations in 2005 .

Hoffmann received a DAAD scholarship to carry out his master’s degree at Oxford University. There Florian Hoffmann worked with Kalypso Nicolaidis, Timothy Garton-Ash and Michael Freeden on the development of a common European pluralism of values. He completed his MPhil with distinction as the best of his year.

Career

In 2008 Hoffmann founded the Dekeyser & Friends Foundation in Geneva together with the entrepreneur and former soccer player Bobby Dekeyser . The foundation was set up to enable young people to pursue their dreams and contribute to sustainable global change.

Hoffmann also worked at DEDON and co-founded DEDON Island, a sustainable island resort in the Philippines.

In 2013 Florian Hoffmann founded The DO School with Katherin Kirschenmann as a global platform that enables young entrepreneurs and leading corporations to drive innovation and an economy that combines profit and social meaning. As of 2020, The DO School has locations in Berlin, Hong Kong, Hamburg, and New York City.

In 2014 Hoffmann was named a Fellow of the Disruptor Foundation, which was founded by Harvard Prof. Clayton Christensen , Rabbi Irwin Kula and Craig Hatkoff. In 2016, he and The DO School were awarded the Land of Ideas Award by the President of the German Federal Government. In 2018 Hoffmann was one of 50 Germans portrayed in the We: Deutschland series by British artist Marcus Lyon. Hoffmann is also a member of the Judging Academy of the Varkey Foundation's $ 1 million Global Teacher Prize.
