Floris Völkner (born May 25, 1976 in Berlin ) is a German hockey player and coach. Until June 2013 he trained the women of the Berliner Hockey-Club (BHC) in the first Bundesliga ( field and hall ) and took over this activity again from his predecessor Florian Keller in March 2019 .

Active career

Völkner began playing hockey at the Berlin Hockey Club at the age of six and has remained loyal to his club over the years.

In his youth he won two German championships with his team. He celebrated his first title in 1992 with youth B on the field. In the final against Rot-Weiß Munich , Völkner acted as a midfield strategist and safely converted his penalty in the seven-meter shootout. With the indoor title in 1995 with the youth A, Völkner crowned his youth career and played a key role in the success as defensive boss and goalscorer in the final against Harvestehuder THC .

Völkner was appointed to various youth teams by the German Hockey Association and made international matches for the U18 and U21 national teams.

During his time as a youth player, Völkner was also active in the men's team of the BHC from 1993 . In his first year in the Bundesliga , he also scored his first goal in the away game in Frankenthal . In the following game against Dürkheim he made his debut in the starting line-up. Nevertheless, the season ended with a bitter relegation from the Bundesliga. As a result, in 1998 and 2004, Völkner was able to climb up to the top German league twice with the Berlin Hockey Club, where the club still plays today. In the hall, Völkner and his team reached the quarter-finals of the German championship several times, but he was denied participation in a final round until the end. In the summer of 2004 Völkner ended his active career in the first team for professional reasons.

In January 1997, indoor specialist Völkner was nominated by national coach Paul Lissek for the 8th European Indoor Championships in Liévin , France . The very young team around players like Christian Mayerhöfer , Philipp Crone and Björn Michel became European champions, in the final they beat the Czech Republic 10: 5. Völkner completed a total of 5 A-internationals (Halle) and scored 1 goal.

In 1998 he was honored by his club with the Silver Badge of Honor of the Berlin Hockey Club for his sporting successes .

Coaching career

During his time as an active Bundesliga player, he also devoted himself to coaching. Initially, he was in charge of the 2nd women's team of the Berlin Hockey Club for years , with which he was active in the major and regional leagues and celebrated numerous Berlin championships.

From 2003 he was also active in the female junior division of his club. Here he and his teams were able to contribute two German youth championships to the BHC's large collection of titles . In 2008 the female youth B defeated the local rival Zehlendorfer Wespen in the final of the German indoor championship with 6: 1. Two years later, the female youth A celebrated a wafer-thin 2-1 victory against the same opponent.

After Völkner had actually ended his coaching career in order to concentrate on his job, he made a spectacular return to the coaching bench in the summer of 2012. After the Berlin hockey club was looking for a trainer for its successful first women's team, Völkner and his colleague Marcel König formed the new team of trainers for the 2012/13 field season. The team around record national player Natascha Keller ended the first half of the season without losing points and thus went into the indoor season as favorites. Here in February 2013, as a newcomer to the Bundesliga, Völker and his team achieved the feat of not only reaching the finals in front of their own audience in Berlin, but also the 6th German indoor championship title for the women of the BHC . In June 2013, the women of the BHC finally secured the double through their success at the finals of the German field hockey championship in Hamburg.

Private

Völkner grew up with his parents, a sister and a brother in Zehlendorf in the south of Berlin. He attended the southern elementary school and passed his Abitur in 1995 at the Droste-Hülshoff-Gymnasium.

In his earliest youth, Völkner played not only hockey but also soccer at TuS Makkabi Berlin . He is also musically gifted and continues to play the piano passionately.

On April 30, 2013 Völkner married his fiancée Paula Deus in Berlin.
