The Biratnagar Airport (ICAO code VNVT ; IATA code BIR ) is a Nepalese commercial airport near the town of Biratnagar in the district of Morang in the Kosi zone .

It was opened on July 6, 1958 and is the starting point for flight connections to various high mountain airfields in the east of the country, e.g. B. also to Bhojpur, Lamidanda, Phaplu, Rumjatar, Taplejung and Tumlingtar, which are considered STOL airfields . As a result, Biratnagar has a high volume of domestic flight connections. The most important destination is by far Kathmandu , which is connected by flights to almost all airlines operating in Biratnagar.

Biratnagar is currently served by Buddha Air , Nepal Airlines and Yeti Airlines, among others .

It has a 1524 meter long and 30 meter wide runway (09/27) and also allows night take-offs and landings. While the apron was extended by a few parking positions three years ago, there are more extensive plans to expand the airport, as the space is hardly able to cope with the current volume of traffic.
