The ANR Robinson International Airport is the airport of the Caribbean island of Tobago and an international two airports in the country Trinidad and Tobago .
Structure and facilities
The airport is located south of Crown Point , southwest of Canaan , and is only 14 km from Tobago's capital, Scarborough . It opened in December 1940.
Mainly domestic flights are operated from the airport. A flight to Piarco airport in Trinidad takes about 25 minutes. The operating airline is Caribbean Airlines . The airport is suitable for larger aircraft and is served by British Airways and Virgin Atlantic Airways . The German airline Condor flies to the airport weekly with a Boeing 767 from Frankfurt.
history
The airport was opened in December 1940 by the British colonial administration under the name Crown Point International Airport; the runway initially measured 670 meters. After the facilities were expanded, the runway was expanded to 2,744 meters in 1992. In 2011 the airport was renamed in honor of the former Prime Minister and President of Trinidad and Tobago, Arthur NR Robinson . The airline Tobago Express had its headquarters in Crown Point until its dissolution.
