The Nadi International Airport is the main airport of the Fiji Islands . It is located on the main island of Viti Levu not far from the city of Nadi . It is the home airport of Fiji Airways .

It is approached internationally mainly from New Zealand ( Auckland , Christchurch , Wellington (seasonal)), Australia ( Brisbane , Canberra , Melbourne , Sydney ), Asia ( Hong Kong , Seoul ) and the USA ( Los Angeles , Honolulu ), currently (April 2015) ) from the airlines Aircalin , Air Calidonia , Air New Zealand , Air Niugini , Air Pacific , Air Vanuatu , Fiji Airways , Jetstar Airways , Korean Air , Nauru Airlines , Solomon Airlines and Virgin Australia .

Up until the 1980s, the airport was of great importance for transpacific flights, which were mostly not possible without a refueling stop. With the appearance of newer long-haul aircraft such as the Boeing 747-400 , the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 or the Airbus A340 , the Pacific could then be crossed non-stop.
