The Frankfurt am Main Airport Fire Brigade is the plant fire brigade of Frankfurt am Main Airport . As a non-public fire brigade in Hesse , it employs over 300 full-time workers who take care of fire protection at Europe's third largest airport. The airport fire brigade has been part of the FTU (flight operations and terminal management, corporate security ) division of the airport operator Fraport AG since the beginning of 2010 .
Guard system
The Frankfurt Airport Fire Brigade has four fire stations on the airport premises :
- The guard 1 ( 50 ° 2 '10.8 " N , 8 ° 35' 26.8" O ) is located in the south of the airport near the airlift monument on the grounds of the former Rhein-Main Air Base . She is primarily responsible for building fire protection, operations with dangerous goods and other technical assistance . It is used in the north-east and south of the airport, including the CargoCity South air freight terminal , as well as - on request - securing sections of the A 3 and A 5 motorways in the area of the airport. The department for operational planning, preventive fire protection and the administrative apparatus are also housed in this station. 22 of the 64 fire brigade members work on one shift.
- The guard 2 ( 50 ° 2 '41.2 " N , 8 ° 34' 23.1" O ) is in the run-up region on the center web (07C / 25C). She is responsible for aircraft fire protection on the entire apron and the parallel runway system of the runways. In addition, another HTLF (emergency fire fighting vehicle) is stationed here for building fire protection in order to minimize the intervention time for the buildings in the north and north-west.
- The guard 3 ( 50 ° 1 '18.9 " N , 8 ° 31' 47.1" O ) at the west runway (18) takes over in addition to the protection of the southwestern airport region and the fire protection in General Aviation Terminal (GAT) and in the aircraft maintenance hangars in the south. In addition, 3 large pieces of equipment for aircraft recovery as well as two water tank trailers (40 m³ each) and further roll-off containers with technical equipment are housed in the station.
- The guard 4 ( 50 ° 2 '21.3 " N , 8 ° 31' 8.1" O ) secures the Newly opened in 2011 north-west runway from (07L / 25R) and houses the third ICAO fire company.
According to ICAO regulations, in the event of an alarm, the emergency services from guards 1 to 3 must arrive in their room at the emergency site within 180 seconds of being alerted, those from station 4 within 120 seconds due to more recent regulations. If these values are not adhered to, the airport's operating license for flight operations expires.
Fire Brigade Training Center
The Fire Brigade Training Center (FTC) is located in the south of the airport premises near Guard 1. It was created in order to continuously train and educate the full-time firefighters of the airport fire brigade. However, other airport departments have long been trained here. Since 1996 members of other fire departments have been able to attend various standard and special courses here. In the area of Guard 4, there are additional training facilities available specifically for use on aircraft.
