The airfield Bohlen is an airfield in Böhlen (Sachsen) . It is mainly used by private pilots with ultralight and light aircraft .

Airfield

The airfield is located in the district of Leipzig between Böhlen and Zwenkau , directly on the B 2 at a height of 131 m (430 ft) AMSL .

It is approved for aircraft up to a weight of 5700 kg. It is open in summer on weekends from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. local time ( mandatory operation ), in winter and on weekdays only on request ( PPR ).

The operator of the airfield is the Fliegerclub Böhlen eV It mainly operates air sports with ultralight aircraft and light aircraft . The sports pilot's license for aerodynamically controlled microlight aircraft can be acquired in the club's own flight school .

history

In the DDR

After a few glider take-offs had already been carried out on May 1, 1955 on the southern edge of Böhlen, a small flight day was held on the same day of the following year on the site of the opencast mine . The site was found to be suitable and the construction of an airfield began. An aircraft hangar was built and regular flight operations began in 1957. In 1959 the pivot point of the opencast mine was relocated. Since the new coal connection line was supposed to lead exactly over the airfield, it had to be laid with great effort, but with the support of the plant management. Flight operations ceased in August 1960 and resumed at the new location in July 1961. In 1965 the area was approved for aircraft towing. In 1979 the airfield - like many other air sports facilities in the GDR - was closed or "temporarily not operated".

After the turn

When air sports became possible again after the fall of the Wall, the Böhlen airfield was reactivated. Since neither personnel nor material were available for gliding, the main focus was placed on ultralight flight: On April 15, 1990, the Ultraleichtfliegerclub Böhlen e. V. founded.

In 1994 a round hall was built from the former Böhlen plant on the airfield. In addition to the existing runway 11/29, the 06/24 was created in order to reduce the noise pollution of the residents. In the same year the club was renamed Fliegerclub Böhlen eV . The operating license for the new runway was issued in 1995, and at the same time the field was given the status of a commercial airfield .

On the night of June 4, 2008, a hangar at the airfield burned down completely due to arson . Another fire started in March 2009, which also burned down the second hall. The Air Sports Association of Saxony then called for a fundraising campaign.
