The Klix airfield is a special airfield where mainly winch and aircraft tow starts are carried out by gliders . In addition, take-offs and landings for powered aircraft up to 5.7 tons and microlight aircraft are permitted. The airfield is located in the municipality of Großdubrau in Saxony .

history

The history of the Klix airfield began on October 7, 1955 with the first take-off of a glider on the Klix site. During the years in the GDR, the airfield developed into the district airfield and the GST's performance center . Since 1990 the Klix airfield has been operated by the aeroteamKLIX Segelflugclub eV .

Since 1990, the club has held a cross-country flight competition every year, known as a "class reunion".

Flight operations

The Klixer glider airfield is particularly known for the favorable thermal conditions and the little restricted air space throughout Germany and beyond, and is always popular with many "flying guests". In addition, in the autumn and winter months from the Klix airfield it is possible to access the lee wave area of the Zittau Mountains as well as the Altvater and Giant Mountains .

incident

On May 3, 2016, a 21-year-old female pilot had a fatal accident during the Klix 2016 competition when she crashed on the airfield with her single-seat Eiri Avion PIK-20 during the approach . She succumbed to her injuries in the Bautzen hospital, whereupon the competition was canceled. The investigations of the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation (BFU) indicate a tax error as the cause of the accident.
