The airfield Fetlar ( IATA code : FEA ) is an airport on the island of Fetlar in Shetland , in the north of Scotland . It is located 1 km northwest of the village of Houbie . The airfield has only one runway, there are no other facilities. The runway is slightly elevated in the middle.
history
The airfield was built in 1972 to break the isolation of the Shetlands. There used to be a scheduled flight service that was flown with Britten-Norman Islanders to the other remote airports. There used to be flights to Tingwall Airport on Shetland's main island Mainland . However, the flights have all been suspended and now the airfield is only used for emergencies and occasional charter flights.
