The Aérodrome de Persan-Beaumont is an airfield of General Aviation in France. It is located in the Picardy region in the Val-d'Oise department , essentially in the area of Bernes-sur-Oise and Bruyères-sur-Oise, about three kilometers east-northeast of Persan . The airfield was used as a military airfield before and during World War II and the first decades of the Cold War .
history
The airfield was built in the 1930s as a military airfield for the Armée de l'Air . In the pre-war period, the Groupe de Bombardement GB II / 12, equipped with medium-weight bombers of the type LeO 45 , was based here.
After the occupation of France by the German Wehrmacht , it became a base of the Air Force , which, however, only used it sporadically. The III. Group of Luftlandegeschwader 1 (III./LLG1), which was equipped with Hs126 , Do17 and DFS 230 , used the field in April / May 1943.
At year-end were here Fw 190 F / G - fighter-bombers of III. Group of the battle squadron 4 (III./SLG4).
In 1943 and 1944 the airfield was repeatedly the target of Allied air raids. In one of these attacks, the nearby Bernes-sur-Oise was almost completely destroyed because there were aircraft shelters in the middle of the town. The Germans left Persan-Beaumont in late August 1944.
After a short repair of the badly damaged airfield, Airfield A.60 , as it was called by the Allies, became a base at the end of September and became a base of the Ninth Air Force of the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF). The 386th Bombardment Group , equipped with the B-26, lay here between early October 1944 and early April 1945. It was replaced by the 410th Bombardment Group , an A-26 unit, which lay here until June 1945. The Americans returned the airfield to France in July 1945.
From the beginning of 1946, the airfield, which was later referred to as Base aérienne 218 (BA 218), again became an operational base for the Armée de l'air, which stationed its Escadrille de liaison aérienne ELA 1/56 here. This liaison squadron, which has been known as "Vaucluse" since 1947, had a number of different aircraft in stock, such as the MS.500 , Ju 52 , Goéland , Baltimore or Barracuda .
In the 1950s, the Goéland and Ju-52 were replaced by the Dakota and Si 204 and in 1956 a Hurel-Dubois HD.321 and some Broussard were added. Between 1963 and 1967, Persan was still a base for " Noras ". This year the base should close, which is why the ELA moved 56 to base 105 . Base 218 was finally closed on October 31, 1967.
Previously, parts of the film Is Paris Burning? at the airfield.
Todays use
