The Focus Group Holdings Limited ( Focus Group ; Chinese  映 藝 集團 控股 有限公司  /  映 艺 集团 控股 有限公司 , Jyutping Jing 2 Ngai 6 Zaap 3 Tyun 4 Hung 3 Gu 2 Jau 2 Haan 6 Gung 1 Si 1 ) is a media company with Based in Hong Kong , which was founded by the actor and hit or pop singer Andy Lau .

history

The holding company has existed under its current name since 2004, but has direct forerunners whose work can be traced back to the early 1990s. For example, the predecessor company Teamwork Motion Pictures produced the film "Heaven and Earth" by David Lai in 1994. This left 40,000 feet of film rolls, which were passed on to director Fruit Chan as the expired remnant in 1996 . After Chan gathered more expired footage to shoot Made In Hong Kong (1997), Andy Lau's company took over the production of the low-budget film , which was budgeted for 500,000 HKD or US $ 64,000. Another of the 16 works produced by Teamwork Motion Pictures is the action film Fulltime Killer by directors Johnnie To and Wai Ka-Fai .

In 2001 the company had a rumored debt of HKD 40 million, which is why Lau closed TeamWork Motion Pictures in order to immediately open the almost identical production company TeamWork Group with the participation of the entrepreneur Clement Mak . However, the collaboration lasted only a year. An intense legal dispute with various lawsuits between Lau, Mak and the media company CCT Telecom as the third participant led to the end of the cooperation and teamwork .

After these disputes had been settled, the company was renamed Focus Group Holdings in 2004 to enable a new start. Only three years later Lau sold his company for a rumored 150 million HKD to the media magnate Peter Lam .

One of the first works produced is the feature film A World Without Thieves, made by Feng Xiaogang in 2004, with Andy Lau in one of the two leading roles. As with its predecessor company in the late 1990s, the Focus Group also produced films that were successful at film festivals, including the feature film Tao Jie - A Simple Life (2011) by Ann Hui .

In 2018 a series was produced for the first time in addition to the various feature films with The Trading Floor (starring Yu Nan , China, Francis Ng , Hong Kong, and Joseph Chang, Taiwan). The Focus Group is one of three co-producers, the other two are Fox Networks Group and Tencent Pictures .
