Forastera

Forastera is a white wine variety that is common in the Italian region of Campania , the islands of Sardinia and Ischia, as well as on Corsica (France) and the Canary Islands Tenerife and La Gomera (Spain). It is usually expanded in a blend with other varieties. It usually gives the white DOC wines from Ischia their special character when blended with Biancolella . In the mouth, the variety develops a slight almond tone. In Italy, the forested area was around 286 hectares in the early 1990s .

Ampelographic variety characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. She is hairy white wool. The shoot tip is whitish in color with a crimson tinge. The young leaves are lightly hairy and yellowish in color.
  • The large leaves are three- to five-lobed and indented to a medium depth. The stem bay is open in a U-shape. The sheet is serrated to a point. The teeth are closely set compared to other varieties. The underside of the leaf is greyish in color.
  • The pyramidal to cylindrical grape is medium-sized, slightly shouldered and with loose berries. The oval berries are medium-sized and white-yellow in color. The taste of the berries is neutral.

Riefe: The moderately vigorous grape variety ripens approx. 20 days after the Gutedel and is therefore considered to ripen early.

properties

The yields are usually high, so that targeted vine training has to reduce the yield in order to achieve good wine quality. It is susceptible to powdery mildew and raw rot .
