Sarh ( Arabic ساره, formerly known as Fort Archambault ) is the largest city in southern Chad and the third largest city in the country after N'Djamena and Moundou . The city lies on the Chari River and is the capital of the former Moyen-Chari prefecture . The population is 110,355 (as of 2009).

Sarh was founded by the French for returnees from the labor camps to build the Congo-Ocean railway line . Today the city is a major hub for goods from all over the country and a center of the cotton industry . Sarh also houses the Sarh National Museum and an airport ( IATA code SRH).

Sarh is the seat of the Diocese of Sarh and has been a twin town of Cherbourg-Octeville in France since November 2001 .
