Fortios is a municipality ( freguesia ) in the Portuguese district ( concelho ) of Portalegre . In 2018, residents lived in it (as of June 30, 2011).

The Church of Saint Sebastian (São Sebastio)

history

Finds prove a prehistoric settlement, such as the Neolithic tombs ( port .: Antas ) of the Antas do Monte Nogueiro . Finds from Roman times have also been made here, including coins and references to houses.

The current place was probably built in the 15th / 16th centuries. Century. At the end of the 16th century, Fortios became an independent community, which gained importance as a regional pilgrimage site.
