The day thief Phyllis, a woman in her forties, lives with her mother, with whom she is connected in a love-hate relationship. She meets the actor Henry, who ekes out his existence as a supporting actor in a doctors soap. To his mother she pretends to be a gynecologist. When she wants to visit Henry, she accidentally runs over the main actor after a spontaneous smooching, so that Henry can rise in the soap and start a relationship with the main actress Doris.

When Phyllis and her mother watch Henry and Doris kissing, the two pursue Doris and an incident occurs in which Doris is run over by Henry. Henry gets out of the soap and becomes an unsuccessful street musician; Phyllis hides the death.

In a thirst for revenge against Phyllis, who in the meantime has also put the owner of the accident car on a Malaysian death row with drugs, Henry manipulates the braking system of the Volvo, which is shared by Phyllis and her mother. Since he did not leave the car after the manipulation, however, Phyllis' mother, who wants to drive to the police in the car, picks him up and takes him away. The mother does not survive the subsequent accident, Henry is from then on in a vegetative state and Phyllis inherits and is happy. Police investigating the former lead actor's death conclude that Phyllis' mother caused it.
