Frédéric Bérat (born March 11, 1801 in Rouen ; died December 2, 1855 in Paris ) was a French goguettier (member of a goguette ), composer and songwriter. He is the author of Ma Normandie ("My Normandy "), the song used as the national anthem of Jersey , which also sometimes serves as the unofficial Norman anthem. Frédéric Bérat wrote this song in 1836 when he was on the Seine between Rouen and Le Havre . It was inspired by an aria from the opera Atys composed by Lully .

A collection of his works was published under the title Chansons, paroles et musique de Frédéric Bérat in Paris by Alexandre Curmer (c. 1853). The compilation Contes et nouvelles du pays normand , edited by Paul Duval in the Collection Nos provinces , contains texts by Frédéric Bérat, Maupassant , Jean Revel (1848–1925) and Édouard Bourgine (1884–1928).
