François Sills (born June 15, 1964 in Amos , Québec ) is a former German - Canadian ice hockey player who was active in the DEL for the Krefeld Penguins and the Frankfurt Lions , among others .
Career
Sills began his career in 1981 in the Canadian Junior League Québec Major Junior Hockey League with the Bisons de Granby , which he left during the 1981/82 season to join league rivals Voisins de Laval . There he was one of the team's best scorers and won the Coupe du Président , the championship of the QMJHL , with the club in the 1983/84 season . Sills made a big contribution to this success with a total of 142 points in 84 games. Despite his good performances, he was never drafted by an NHL team . In the summer of 1988 he forced a move to Europe and accepted a contract offer from Duisburger SV , with whom he played in the 2nd Bundesliga from then on .
In his first season he was able to score 160 times in 50 games. After he was convincing in the following season, he was signed by the then second division team Krefelder EV in 1990. With KEV he rose to the end of the 1991/92 season after two wins and one defeat in the relegation against PEV Weißwasser in the Bundesliga . Sills was active in Krefeld until 1995 and was one of the public favorites during this time. Together with Bruce Eakin and John Walker , he formed one of the most dangerous ranks in the 1st Bundesliga. In his five years in Krefeld he achieved a total of 340 scorer points. In his last season at KEV, which was nicknamed Penguins after the DEL was founded in 1994, he reached the semifinals of the German championship with the club , which was lost to EV Landshut .
In the summer of 1995 Sills joined the DEL Club Frankfurt Lions. There he was active for two seasons before he moved to Grefrather EV in 1997, which was then the second highest German ice hockey league, the 1st League North. After his contract expired at the end of the 1997/98 season, he ended his active career.
