France Kermer

France Kermer (* 1945 in Douvres , Département Ain ) is a French painter , art educator and author .

Life

After graduating from the baccalaureate in Strasbourg , France Kermer studied painting and art education at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart with Hugo Peters , Horst Bachmayer and KRH Sonderborg as well as Romance studies at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen . She completed her studies with the first and second state examinations for higher teaching qualifications. From 1979 to 1980 she was a research assistant at the Romance Department of the University of Tübingen, and then taught fine arts and French at the Wirtemberg grammar school in Stuttgart-Untertürkheim . From 1987 she turned to painting as a freelance artist. She also wrote articles on contemporary ceramics and glass design for French and German specialist magazines . With a book publication in 1993 she paid tribute to the work of Claude Morin, one of the initiators of the studio glass movement in France. After setting up her own studio in Cendrecourt in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté in 1997 and setting up a free atelier créatif in 1998 in the former school of Cendrecourt, which was open to children and adults alike , she headed the former school in Cendrecourt in 1999/2000 at the invitation of the town of Chaumont in the Ardennes and the DRAC ( Direction régionale des affaires culturelles ) Champagne-Ardenne held a workshop covering a total of ten schools on the subject of 200 masks for the year 2000, followed by an exhibition ( Les Silos, Maison du livre et de l'affiche , Chaumont). From 2000 to 2004 she was project manager for visual arts at the Evangelical Conference Center Löwenstein (ETL) several times .

In addition to her artistic work, which she showed in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Germany and France, she volunteered to run the painting studio she founded in the Center Claire Joie (ADAPEI 70) in Gevigney . Several exhibitions as well as the book La joie claire de peindre published by her in 2009 took stock of this work.

In 2019 France Kermer provided the cover illustration for the novel Féminitude by Daniel Lauret (Éditions Orphie, Collection Différences).

France Kermer is married to the art historian Wolfgang Kermer . She lives and works in Kusel in Rhineland-Palatinate and in Cendrecourt.

In 2018 France and Wolfgang Kermer donated their private collection of modern French ceramics, which had already been on view in 2008/09 in the Frauenau Glass Museum and in 2014/15 in the Theodor Zink Museum in Kaiserslautern , the traditional ceramic city of Saargemünd .
