history
The community of Wildenau was founded around 1200 by Franconian and Upper Palatinate farmers. The place was first mentioned in 1413 in a document from Burgrave Albrecht von Leisnig . Wildenau originally belonged to the rule Auerbach and later to the Vogtland office of Plauen . The parish of Wildenau belonged to Stangengrün and was divided from 1598 to 1897 into a front side (towards Rodewisch) and an open side (towards Stangengrün). The old school was built in 1842. In 1897, the Wildenau parish became an independent branch of Stangengrün . The church was consecrated a year later. In 1903 the construction of a tower began on the Steinberg . In 1908 Wildenau received its own school.
After the end of the Second World War , the place, like the entire Vogtland, was initially occupied by the Americans until June 1945. The neighboring village of Röthenbach was incorporated into Wildenau on July 1, 1950, but separated again from Wildenau in 1957. The schools of both places were united in 1951. The Herlagrün district , which previously belonged to Wildenau, came to Obercrinitz in 1952 .
In the course of the Saxon municipal area reform , the municipalities of Rothenkirchen , Wernesgrün and Wildenau voluntarily merged to form the municipality of Steinberg in 1994 . The signing of the certificate took place on the Steinberg on Wildenauer Flur. In 2007, after extensive construction work, the "Berggaststätte Steinberg" was reopened.
