Francesca Melandri (born June 9, 1964 in Rome ) is an Italian writer.

Life

Melandri has written a variety of screenplays that were made into films in Italy, including the films Zoo by Cristina Comencini (1988), Princess Fantaghirò by Lamberto Bava (1991), Bergkristall - Ververrt im Schnee (Cristallo di rocca) by Maurizio Zaccaro (1999 ), as well as some episodes of the TV series Chiara e gli altri , Nati ieri and Don Matteo .

Melandri placed her first novel Eva dorme , published in 2010, in the history of South Tyrol in the 1960s and 1970s . In 2018 she was awarded the Great Order of Merit of the State of South Tyrol . In 2019 she was awarded the honorary prize of the Austrian book trade for tolerance in thought and action .

Her sister Giovanna Melandri is an Italian politician (Minister for Youth and Sport in the Romano Prodi government) and cultural manager.

Melandri's contemporary historical novel Alle, besides mir (2018) reached number 1 in the Top 25 of the monthly independent bestseller list of fiction published by the Börsenblatt des Deutschen Buchhandels in September 2018 . The Zeit reviewer praised the author for having “succeeded in creating a great contemporary historical novel about the fate of migrants and the poison of colonialism ”. The novel was also voted the Independents' Favorite Book in 2018. Until May 19, 2020, SWR2 broadcast a 39-part reading of the novel with Susanne-Marie Wrage as the reader every week as part of the series To be continued .
