Francesco I. d'Este (born September 6, 1610 in Modena , † October 14, 1658 in Santhià , Vercelli ) from the Este family was the eldest son of the Duke of Modena and Reggio Alfonso III. d'Este and his successor since his resignation on July 25, 1629.

Francesco I was married three times:

  • since 1631 with Maria Farnese (1615–1646), daughter of the Duke of Parma , Ranuccio I Farnese ,
  • since February 12, 1648 with her sister Vittoria Farnese (1618–1649) and
  • since October 14, 1654 with Lucrezia Barberini (1630–1699), a daughter of Taddeo Barberini.

From his first marriage he had nine children:

  • Alfonso d'Este (* / † 1632),
  • Alfonso IV. D'Este (1634–1662), Duke 1658, ⚭ 1655 Laura Martinozzi († 1687), a daughter of Geronimo Martinozzi,
  • Isabella d'Este (1635–1666) ⚭ February 18, 1664 Ranuccio II. Farnese (1630–1694), Duke of Parma,
  • Leonora d'Este (1639-1640),
  • Tedaldo d'Este (1640–1643),
  • Almerigo d'Este (1641-1660),

From his second marriage he had a daughter, Vittoria d'Este (1649–1656), from his third marriage another son, Rinaldo d'Este (1655–1737), Cardinal 1686–1695, Duke 1694, the 1696 Charlotte of Hanover (1671–1710) married, a daughter of Elector Johann Friedrich von Braunschweig-Lüneburg .
