Francesco Mancini (born October 10, 1968 in Matera , † March 30, 2012 in Pescara ) was an Italian football player .

Athletic career

Mancini began his career in his birthplace at FC Matera , for whom the goalkeeper made his debut in the fourth-rate C2 series in the mid-1980s . After the club went bankrupt in 1987, he was briefly active at AS Bisceglie before joining the third division US Foggia during the year . In 1989, he managed the club to return to the Serie B , where he in the season 1990/91 under coach Zdenek Zeman as goalkeeper for the rise of the team in the Serie A helped. In 1995 he was relegated with the club, then he lost his place between the posts to Alex Brunner and was awarded to Lazio Rome . After the end of the loan deal in the summer of 1996 and the departure of the competitor to FC Bologna , he was again the goalkeeper of the second division.

In the summer of 1997, Mancini moved back to Serie A after more than 200 professional games for US Foggia and joined AS Bari , for which he was active for three seasons. In October 2000 he joined the league competitor SSC Napoli , whose goalkeeper Ferdinando Coppola had changed to FC Bologna as an exchange with Marco Roccati . Mancini also established himself here as a regular goalkeeper before Roccati, but moved into the second line after the commitment of Alberto Fontana at the turn of the year. After only one half series, however, the competitor left the club again when they joined Inter Milan as the second goalkeeper behind Francesco Toldo after relegating SSC Napoli to the second division . Before Marco Storari and Emanuele Manitta , he held his own for two seasons over long stretches in the goal of the second division team.

After his contract with the Neapolitans expired in the summer of 2003, Mancini hired himself in the lower-class league area and played for AC Pisa , the SS Sambenedettese Calcio , Teramo Calcio , the US Salernitana and AS Martina until his retirement at the age of 39 until 2008 Franca in the third class C1 series .

From 2009 Mancini gained his first experience as a goalkeeping coach at the fourth division Manfredonia Calcio before he joined Zeman's coaching team at the US Foggia the following summer. He followed this in 2011 to Delfino Pescara 1936 .

Mancini died in spring 2012 at the age of 43, presumably of complications from a heart attack .
